PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS
Gina Sharpe was born in Jamaica and immigrated to New York at age 11. She has an A.B. in Philosophy from Barnard College, Columbia University, and a J.D. from New York University School of Law. Gina co-founded New York Insight Meditation Center and was, for more than 10 years, its Guiding Teacher, while teaching at various Buddhist retreats and meditation centers since 1995.
Reverend Sara D. Smith, Esq. currently serves as the Senior Minister of United Congregational Church of Bridgeport, the oldest institution in the city, gathered in 1695. Reverend Sara is the first woman and first openly gay clergy called to serve this 328-year-old congregation of the United Church of Christ.
Alejandro J. Ramos ’23 is an alum of Sacred Heart University, having studied Political Science, Spanish, and Journalism. He is pursuing an MPA at Cornell University’s Brooks School of Public Policy focusing on education policy.
Gary L. Rose, Ph.D. is Professor of Politics and Scholar in Residence at Sacred Heart University and has been a college instructor for close to five decades.
Rabbi Joshua Ratner is a rabbi at Or Hadash, a Conservative synagogue in Fairfield. He also serves as the Jewish Chaplain at Sacred Heart University.
Andrew Levine has enjoyed a multifaceted career in the performing arts. He recently served as managing director for the Sheen Center for Thought and Culture in lower Manhattan, where he also curated music and poetry programs for the multi-arts center owned by the Archdiocese of New York. Previously, Andrew served as the Executive Director of the York Theatre Company, a home for new and rediscovered musical theater works.
Dr. Allen Hershkowitz, the author of Finding My Father’s Auschwitz File, is an environmental scientist, visionary, activist, writer, lecturer, and strategic sustainability advisor. He has served on scientific committees and advisories of dozens of organizations and businesses including the UN, the OECD, the US EPA, the CDC, the IOC, the IWBI, and many others.
Francis X.R. Origanti, MSW, Ph.D., Senior Vice President - Mission and Culture at Sacred Heart University, has built his academic career in a variety of roles and in various committees, including serving as a peer reviewer for the Higher Learning Commission, one of the six regional institutional accreditors in the United States, and vice chair of the National Conference Planning Committee of the Association of Baccalaureate Social Work Program Directors.
Shelley Kreiger is the Founding Educator of the newly formed Holocaust Resource Center of Fairfield County at the Jewish Federation of Greater Fairfield County. A long-time Jewish Educator, Shelley’s role in the community is to develop programs that educate different constituencies in the area, support Holocaust survivors and 2nd- and 3rd-generation survivor families.
