ART AS HEALING
Commemorating Two Years Since October 7th
Sunday, October 5th
4 pm
SHYE KLEIN is a Canadian-born, Toronto-raised photographer who had spontaneously made aliyah just months before the October 7th Supernova music festival. As the attack unfolded, he continued documenting events through his camera and captured one of the most harrowing moments in modern Jewish history from an unprecedented first-person perspective.
Nearly two years later, he shares that perspective through powerful imagery and storytelling, providing context, clarity, and humanity to incidents that are too often misunderstood. Through his photography, advocacy work, and speaking engagements across over 200 cities in North America, Shye amplifies survivor voices and challenges, and confronts rising antisemitism with honesty and empathy. His work helps communities understand the lived realities of survivors today and challenges audiences to engage, reflect, and stand against hate in all forms.
The Healing Power of Art
A moving tribute to the lives lost on October 7th and the resilience of those who survived - through art, conversation, and community
Join Supernova music festival survivor Shye Klein as he returns to our community to share his powerful story of the road to recovery.
Shye visited our community in November 2023 to share his harrowing testimony recounting his experience at the festival. In the months since, Shye has become a voice for remembrance, resilience, and hope — and the inspiration behind the ESEK NOVA Collection. This curated collection showcases the original work of eight Israeli artists and small-business owners who survived the attack or are immediate family members of those who were lost. Each piece tells a story — of trauma transformed into healing, of creation born from chaos, and of art that sustains lives and livelihoods.
